AC motor applications represent over 70% of the energy consumed in North America. Providing motor controllers to appropriate applications will not only save energy, but save significant maintenance related operational expenses. In the marketplace there are two primary solutions to evaluate when considering motor control implementation.
- Variable Speed Drive (VFD) technology (speed adjustment based on load)
- Voltage Torque Controls (VTC) technology (voltage adjustment based on load)
- Single & three phase applications – from ¼ hp – 900 hp
A quick means to selecting which is right for your application will be based on whether your application requires and benefits from “speed control”. In most pumping & fan applications, VFD technology is widely used in these examples. Conversely, if your application is one of “constant speed”, a VTC is an excellent solution. Both technologies offer motor soft starting technology which is well proven within the marketplace.
